Lame as hell

Lately Ive been really dissatisfied with the way I draw animals. Im sick of it. I mean, ya,ok theyre cute and whatever, but theyre always the same goddamn thing : a huge head on a stump body and the same san-x looking face. And theres nothing WRONG with that I love things like that, its just...always the same.Since my illustration class Ive realized that Ive gotten myself into a rut and Ive realized that I dont want to draw things that way anymore. For the past few months I havnt felt like a real artist, doing the same crap over and over, never challenging myself or doing anything remotely new. Were doing a scratchboard project now based on like Chinese animal years and I picked a rabbit ( of course lol) but I drew it differently, Its still cute...but in a different way. From now on I want to draw animals more of how they actually look. Ive just been so bored with myself as an artist lately.  I needed to learn that things can still be cute without looking like San-x. And Im excited now.
BTW...you should watch The Tudors. SO FUCKING GOOD.

i know exactly how you're feeling.
that's why i tried my best to change how cute!Twink looked for my storybook project - and now i'm really inspired to change that style into "my style" all the time. :)

san-x stuff is adorable, yes.
but honestly, i do sometimes get sick of the uber kawaii.
i don't get sick of your work, don't think that, but when it's just -everywhere-.

you have original ideas, unlike a lot of the other "kawaii" artists.
the bees, for example!
you don't just stick to the bunnies (not that bunnies are bad ;)) or the kitties.

so yes, i admire that.

but, if you want to fiddle aorund with your style & experiment, go for it!
people might not like it, but...screw the people.
i'd like it :)

Haha I think Ill always love san-x and all that stuff, but what Ive realized is that I dont need to keep drawing it, its just not doing anything for me anymore. I wanna make more...childrens book type stuff. Im happy with my scenery, thats the only thing I think Ive improved on...but I just feel embarassed submitting work now, I cant stand it anymore lol
It just seems the KAWAII thing can be a trap when there are so many other ways to draw things. And it is everywhere.
